Hobart Kicks off Four Days of Fun with Annual Lakefront Festival

For 25 years a staple in Hobart summers has been the Lakefront Festival. Hosted downtown at the iconic Festival Park, the four day event includes live music, food, and family friendly activities for everyone to enjoy.

“This is a cornerstone Hobart event,” said Nikki Lopez, Event Director for the City of Hobart, “The thing I love most about this weekend is that this is truly a community event. A lot of non-profits in the community are involved with making this happen.”

The Jaycees Beer Garden is located right near Revelli Bandshell, and is the perfect place to enjoy a drink while listening to the live music. This year’s lineup includes High Noon on Thursday night. Positive Vibe Technicians and The Crawpuppies on Friday, Outlaw Road Show Unplugged, Chester Brown, and Superfly Redneck on Saturday, and The Difference and Nawty close the festival up on Sunday.

The Lakefront Fest hosts plenty of events that span the entire weekend. Including fireworks, a Steak Fry hosted by the Hobart Lion’s Club, and the annual Dam Duck Race.

“I look forward to the Dam Duck Race every year,” said Melissa Henrichs, a Hobart resident. “It’s a Hobart tradition that everyone loves.”

The Hobart Foundation Duck Race involves residents “buying” a rubber duck. On Sunday afternoon thousands of ducks are floated into the lake and down the dam. Prizes are awarded to the individuals whose ducks win the race. It is an exciting event that brings out a lot of community members.

In recent years, another special event for the Hobart community has been the Cardboard Boat Regatta. Teams are tasked with building a boat using only cardboard and duct tape; these boats and set into the lake and raced for a chance to win prizes.

The Lakefront Festival has been bringing the city of Hobart together for 25 years. It is the last hoorah of summer, and a can’t miss event for most Brickies.

“It’s a lot of fun to be here, and it’s just great family fun”, Lopez said, “We really look forward to the Lakefront Festival every year.”
