Sauers Family Fun Fair and Car Show Was Good Times for a Great Cause

Hundreds of people from all over Northwest Indiana showed up on a perfect day to celebrate good times and good causes at the Sauers Buick GMC Family Fun Fair and Car Show this afternoon.

Classic rides, newer muscle cars, and eager onlookers made their way up and down the parking lot of Sauers’ La Porte location, oohin and aahin at the steel spectacles before them. Lining the lot as well were vendors selling crafts, games for the whole family, and live music.

And it was all done for a good cause today, as 100% of the money raised at the event today went straight back into the community in the form of a donation to the Salvation Army.

“This is our first time partnering with Sauers,” said Captain Justin Windell of the Salvation Army of La Porte. “And Sauers is really helping us out in two ways today. Both with the money they are raising through the show and the raffles they are putting on, but they are also holding a canned food drive for us today as well.”

Windell said he could not have been happier with how the day went and working with the Sauers team.

“It’s been great today,” added Windell. “Sauers has been great, the weather has been perfect, and it really just puts everybody in a better mood out here.”

Bob Pollock of Michigan City was one of those attendees in a great mood at the fair today. Bob was out showing off his 1964 Studebaker Dayton, one of the last of its kind in the country.

“This isn’t our first time to the Sauers Car Show, we have a 74’ Buick that we usually take to the show,” Pollock said about the fair. “But this is the first time that this car has been restored to where we could take it out to this show and I am happy we did today. After all, this is an Indiana car, and we are in Indiana, so I had to bring this one to the show.”

Judy Bolakowski, the organizer of the event and Sauers employee for over 28 years was just thrilled that all the hard work payed off, the weather played ball, and people like Bob could come out to have a great time and do some good in the process.

“A lot of work goes into this,” Bolakowski said. “I start months in advance in preparing for this and putting things together. All of these people out here working today are all volunteers as well. And it’s all done so everything we earn today can go back to the Salvation Army.”

Safe to say that today all that hard work paid off today in the form of a great time for all ages in La Porte.
