The Sky was the Limit at CityPoint Church’s Easter Egg Hunt

The sky was the limit on Saturday morning for children who participated in CityPoint Church’s Easter egg hunt at Woodland Park. According to Generations Pastor DJ Capron, approximately 7,000 eggs were set out, including six golden eggs which gave the finder claim to a new bicycle.

CityPoint also reincorporated the aspect to their hunt that sets them apart from many others: a helicopter that dropped candy onto the park grounds.

“It came to be just out of a really good idea,” Capron said. “We’ve seen it done at a few other places and we just said, ‘Hey, why not?’”

As children watched on from behind a taped-off starting line in anticipation, the helicopter circled overhead and filled the field.

“It almost blew me away with my face, because it was super cold [outside] and it got me colder,” Marcella Palmer, 11, said.

Church volunteers interacted with the crowd while they helped make sure no one crossed the starting line or grew impatient in the cold. With the promise of candy as a prize, some told children to solve a Rubik’s cube, while others asked for the punchlines of Easter-related jokes.

Right before the helicopter arrived, the crowd was split into sections and competed to see who could be the loudest. The winning section was awarded with extra candy spread out in front of them for when the search began.

“My favorite part was when we started doing the hype and our team won, and it was so awesome, and all the candy was just sitting right there,” Marcella said.

This was the second year that CityPoint held this event. This year, they worked together with the Portage Kiwanis for a pancake breakfast that was held at Woodland Park at the same time to encourage as many people to attend both as possible.

“It was a blessing that we were able to do this and help the community and serve the community,” Capron said. “We hope that we have a lot more opportunities to do so.”
