Museum to Begin Cultural Celebrations with Dia de los Muertos

porter-county-museumOn Saturday, November 2, the Porter County Museum of History will celebrate Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) all day long. This traditional Latino holiday will be commemorated with a variety of family friendly activities throughout the day, from 10am-5pm.

Visitors to the PoCo Muse can participate in ongoing rounds of Day of the Dead bingo (Juego de Lotería) for the price of a quarter, and children can enjoy coloring their own souvenir skull masks or making miniature skeleton people and animals, free of charge.

Museum guests of all ages will be able to decorate an iconic Mexican sugar skull of their very own, with vibrant icing of all colors. Elsewhere, in keeping with the holiday’s purpose of remembering those who have passed on, all visitors are invited to honor their loved ones with paper marigolds that will be available with a personal touch.

Visitors who would like to take a piece of the holiday home may find a wide variety of vibrantly colored Dia de los Muertos items in the museum store. Featured in this merchandise are a series of one-of-a-kind, handmade hats by Another Row of Sequins available for purchase between now and the celebration on November 2.

Dia de los Muertos at the PoCo Muse is sure to be a lively cultural experience for all, and a wonderful opportunity for families to enjoy this festive fall season together.
