Challenger Learning Center to Host Space Race

Challenger-Learning-Center5K Run/2K Walk to benefit Challenger Learning Center

The Challenger Learning Center of Northwest Indiana will be hosting a Space Race 5K run/2K walk on Sunday, September 22. Beginning at 8:00 a.m., participants will race through Purdue University Calumet’s campus.

The race is open to participants of all ages and costs $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under to register online through Sept. 20. Participants may mail-in their registration through Sept. 20 for $20 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under. Race-day registration will be accepted from 7:00 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. and will cost $25 for all participants.

Colonel Jerry Ross will be the master of ceremonies and will be signing copies of his autobiography “Spacewalker” during the event. Attendees will be able to tour the Challenger Learning Center and enjoy space-themed activities for all ages including laser light shows and tours of the space simulator. The event is also a Calumet Region Striders Gold Cup 5K run.

The school or organization with the most participants will win a Family Science Night at the Challenger Learning Center. The science night will include family-friendly activities in every room of the Challenger Learning Center including mini missions, planetarium shows and hands-on science activities for children of all ages.

The Space Race 5K run/2K walk will benefit the Challenger Learning Center of Northwest Indiana and assist the organization with its mission to offer science education learning opportunities for educators, school groups, businesses and communities.
