South Shore CVA Releases “Rube,” 30 Stops in 30 Days Video

Rube 30 Years SignThe South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority celebrated their 30th anniversary with the month-long 30 Stops in 30 Days campaign. The campaign took the South Shore Tour Mobile throughout the South Shore, promoting attractions, festivals, businesses, restaurants and events. Stops were made in Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Newton and Jasper counties.

To cap the campaign, the South Shore CVA team built a Rube Goldberg Machine ™ to select the winner of the 30 Stops in 30 Days contest. For each stop a visitor made, they received an entry to win the $2,000 Family Express gift card grand prize.

A Rube Goldberg Machine ™ is a deliberately over-engineered or overdone machine that performs a very simple task, usually including a chain reaction. The South Shore CVA’s Rube Goldberg Machine ™ featured various scenes highlighting some of the organization’s biggest accomplishments and the South Shore’s hospitality and tourism industry. Scenes included a craps table representing the local casinos, an airplane representing the South Shore Air Show and a water slide symbolizing the South Shore’s waterparks.

We knew we wanted the grand finale of the 30 Stops in 30 Days campaign to be really unique but also expressive of the work we’ve done in our 30 years of existence,” said Speros A. Batistatos, president and CEO of the South Shore CVA.

Visitors were invited to watch the Rube Goldberg Machine ™ after the final scheduled stop of the campaign at the Indiana Welcome Center. Attendees filled the W.F. Wellman Exhibit Hall to see the machine in action before it announced contest entrant number 748, Nicole Hrapek of Crown Point, as the recipient of the grand prize.
