Indiana Historical Society replacing panels with Faces of the Civil War
The South Shore Civil War Memorial Trail’s exhibit “Region United, Nation Divided: South Shore in the Civil War” will be featured at the Indiana Welcome Center through June 30.
Beginning Friday, May 24, the Indiana Historical Society will be replacing the Freedom: A History of the US exhibit with the new traveling exhibit Faces of the Civil War.
Faces of the Civil War features the stories of Hoosiers whose lives were affected, or taken, by the Civil War. The exhibit illustrates how regular people coped with the tragedies and experiences of the time through narrative text and pictures.
Chicago author and historian Michael Weeks will be giving a guest lecture and signing books on Saturday, May 25 at 1:30 p.m. inside the In-Vision Theater at the Indiana Welcome Center. Weeks has written The Complete Civil War Road Trip Guide, Civil War Road Trip: Volume I and Civil War Road Trip: Volume II.
The South Shore Civil War Memorial Trail is a collection of the last known resting places, monuments, architectural icons and sites with Civil War ties that are related to the brave men and women from the region who sacrificed during the most pivotal period in our nation’s history. The trail serves as a guide for visitors who wish to pay their respects to the veterans and learn the stories of their humanity and sacrifice during and after the war.
