Zombie Festivities Take Place In and Around Washington Park

Participants “played dead” in Michigan City’s Zombie Walk organized by Casandra Devries, who was inspired by South Bend’s event every October.

“I am happy to bring the Zombie Walk to our community. South Bend is where everything originated for this walking dead occasion and I am thankful for the help I received from their coordinators,” said Devries.

Individuals participating and acting in the near mile march did not have to pay to perform, but make up services were provided for only $5. The only thing that was asked of zombie enthusiasts was a donation of a nonperishable item for the Northern Indiana food bank. Festivities began in Washington Park at the JC stage and continued up Lakeshore Drive to the bridge, pass the police station and came back around to the park.

When walking, Shane Collins dedicated his life to Miss Cheri Koniczny. They wore wedding attire along with zombie make up which nicely tied into the night. This proved that even the living dead can still find love in the most interesting ways.

About 60 people attended the Zombie Walk and enjoyed the beautiful weather, had fun, and met new friends. Devries hopes to have more events like this in the future and welcomes anyone interested in zombies to come and join her and the other active wanderers.
