On March 10, 2013, Porter County students from grades first through eighth were recognized for their artistic abilities at the annual Arts-A-Budding reception at the Valparaiso University Chapel of the Resurrection. This open reception and award presentation has been taking place annually for 38 years. Visual Arts teachers first started this event to honor students and encourage their creativity.
Students from all over Porter County were thrilled to be a part of the student art exhibit. Along with having the students’ art pieces presented in the chapel, they were also recognized publicly by name and all came forward to be awarded with ribbons for the art that they produced.
“My favorite part is that I get awarded for my artwork in front of all these people,” Elizabeth Pokorney of Bailey Elementary School said.
Over 100 talented young children were recognized for their creativity at this year’s Arts-A-Budding student art exhibit, but the students aren’t the only people to be credited for their pieces.
“What inspired my artwork was my friends and teacher Mrs. Yang because they both encourage me to ‘keep at it’ when they see my art,” Isabella Marquez of Jones Elementary School said.
The Arts-A-Budding exhibit is a way for students to express themselves through their art pieces and share their creative talents with their family and friends.
“The best part about it all is just being able to show my art work,” Carl Frey of Immanuel Lutheran School said.
