Panel Discussion to Address the Topic “What is Art Anyway?”

Southern-Shore-Art-AssociationAn engaging, perhaps perplexing, topic of “What is Art Anyway?” will be subjected to a critical, informed, opinionated debate by four regional artists at a panel discussion at the Southern Shore Art Association Gallery on Sunday, April 15, from 2 – 4 PM.

Neil Kienitz is a watercolorist, portrait artist and illustrator, well known for the subtle timelessness of emotions he captures in his paintings, posters and illustrations.

Gordon Ligocki is a sculptor and painter. Turning one's mind on, creating dialect and interactive feedback in verbal or art media is what keeps Gordon creative. "Art is breathing....

Robert Stanley has been juried into national and international exhibits. Curator Gregg Hertzlieb of Valparaiso University wrote that Stanley’s paintings “set up a dialogue between observation and invention, realism and abstraction that grows into a lively, even stormy exchange.”

Valerie Taglieri is an Art Institute of Chicago graduate who characterizes her paintings, “I appropriate sky imagery using its vacuous emptiness as inspiration…It is here that the intangible becomes the tangible as it reflects color, water and light."

In light of our commitment to the community, we offer this stimulating exchange of ideas between artists. The general public is invited and everybody is encouraged to set aside a couple of hours on April 15 to ponder “What is Art, Anyway?”
