Concert Tells the Story of Women in Jazz

Monika-Herzig-PortraitAcclaimed jazz pianist, composer and Owl Studios recording artist, Monika Herzig returns to Lubeznik Center on Sunday, June 12 with a performance complementing their current “Woman as Artist, Woman as Muse” exhibition.

Reprising a program that she recently performed in Rome, Herzig will recount a history of women in jazz and beyond, covering music by Marian McPartland, Jessica Williams, Billie Holiday, May Aufderheide, and Carol King as well as her own original compositions.

Always popular, Herzig’s tributes cover many genres of jazz — from blues to swing to ragtime. The concert will take place in Lubeznik Center's dramatic, semi-circular Hyndman Gallery, surrounded by more than 40 rare and original art nouveau posters from Europe's Belle Époque. While you are there, be sure to view additional exhibitions featuring vintage Vogue magazine covers, contemporary art quilts and photos of heavy metal rockers.

Doors open at 6:15 p.m., the performance will begin at 7:00 (central). Admission is just $10, $6 for LCA members. Tickets will be held at the door and refreshments will be available. For information or reservations please phone (219)874-4900 or purchase online at lubeznikcenter.org.
