Poetry Slam Returns to Michigan City October 1

Free First Fridays @ 5 continue at Lubeznik Center for the Arts at 5 p.m. on October 1st with the return of Poetry Slam―the creative, sometimes raucous, spoken-word competition that entertained crowds last Spring. Stephen-Henn

Poetry Slam welcomes both a wide range of voices and boisterous audience participation. In May, audience members anointed as "judges" for the night chose poet Stephen Henn as first place winner. Henn, of Warsaw, IN, returns as the featured poet in October. Bragging rights and prizes were also collected by runners-up Merle Miller of LaPorte and Sierra McDonald from Michigan City High School.

World Poetry Slam finalist J.W. Baz is slated to host in October. His charismatic spoken word pieces have been featured on National Public Radio and in the Chicago Tribune. You won't want to miss this chance to cheer, boo, or even participate in this unique performance event. Those interested in reading should contact Janet Bloch at 219.874.4900 or jbloch@lubeznikcenter.org for more information or to register.
