Community Healthcare System and Community Foundation of Northwest Indiana, Inc. Reach Out to Hurricane Victims

Community Healthcare System presented a check for $90,965 on Wednesday, Oct. 11 to the American Red Cross for those affected by recent hurricanes. The funding represents one of the largest contributions to the Red Cross made by a single corporation in Northwest Indiana.

The donation drive to help the victims of hurricanes in the United States and the Caribbean was led by two Community Healthcare System employee groups, Community Connects and Christian Awareness Committee. The contribution was supported by a matching donation by Community Foundation of Northwest Indiana (CFNI), the parent company of Community Hospital in Munster, St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart and Hartsfield Village, a continuing care retirement community in Munster. Included in the relief efforts were employees from other CFNI entities The Center for Visual and Performing Arts and Theatre at the Center.

“This very substantial donation is representative of the extreme compassion and giving spirit of our employees and medical staff,” says Donald P. Fesko, FACHE, President and Chief Executive Officer, Community Foundation of Northwest Indiana, Inc. “There are countless individuals within our organization who worked individually and through other community groups to lend their support in the relief effort.”
