The doors of Willowcreek Middle School will be open once again this Thanksgiving Day to serve free Thanksgiving dinners to the community.
Local churches and organizations have collaborated to welcome the community, including travelers staying here from out of town, the elderly, anyone in need, and anyone who may desire some camaraderie on Thanksgiving.
“We had so much fun last year and there was such a great turn out. One of the attenders compared it to the ‘First Thanksgiving’. Everyone did their part to make this a nice day for each other. It doesn’t matter how much money you do or don’t make or how old you are or whether you are married or single or if you have children or not. This is what it is all about, community,” said Staci Pearman the event director.
Dinner with all the trimmings and festivities will take place at Willowcreek Middle School, 5962 Central Ave., Portage, IN from 2pm-6pm. For those in need of transportation to the event or meal delivery please call 219-805-1659 by November 26th, 2014. The traditional Thanksgiving meal will be cooked and served at the school by volunteers in the hopes of serving 900 meals to the community. Anyone who would like to donate or to volunteer can register at www.oneportage.com. Tax deductible monetary contributions can be made at Chase bank to Our Community Inc., online at www.oneportage.com or by calling 219-805-1659.
