Salvation Army Porter County “Stuff The Bus” Assists over 1000 Students with Backpacks & School Supplies

salvation-armyMore than 300 children, parents and other family members will be attending The Salvation Army Porter County Corps on Friday, August 1, from 4-6 p.m. to receive and enjoy a backpack, school supplies, free food, entertainment/music with a message, games, crafts, a clown and community resources for the new school year. (from grades pre-K-12, attending Porter County schools) The Salvation Army 799 Capitol Rd. (on Highway 6, one block west of Highway 149) South Haven, Indiana will hold a Block Party and VBS Rally Day.

"The Salvation Army of Porter County will be helping to get school supplies to as many needy children as possible so that they will have the tools they need to learn. This is the 8th year we have assisted children in need with the "Stuff the Bus" Backpack/School Supplies Program. The Army has assisted more than 1,000 students with standard backpacks and multiple school supply items recommended by the Porter County Area Schools in the past few years" said Major Jon Welch, Corps Officer. "The Salvation Army has again partnered with Staples in Valparaiso, WalMart in Portage and Kmart in Chesterton, to purchase and collect the backpacks and school supplies for children. The Army continues to accept new in-kind or monetary donations."

If you would like to help Porter County students by donating you can assist in several ways: Send a check to The Salvation Army "Stuff the Bus" P.O. Box 828, Portage, IN 46368-0828, bring in supplies or monetary donations to The Salvation Army Corps, 799 Capitol Rd. on Hwy 6, buy suppliesor make up your own bag of school supplies (including backpack) and "stuff the bus" at The Salvation Army. You can also volunteerto help during the "Block Party' distribution day.

The Salvation Army has been serving Porter County children and young adults in assisting their need for school supplies and backpacks since 2007 with the desire to help them return to school with the proper tools needed to learn. Over 1,000 children have been helped since the inception of our school supplies programs.
