4th Annual Living Health, Balance, and Hope Symposium: Keynote Breakfast with Dan Gediman

Thursday morning, the positive vision of Porter-Starke Services resonated through the halls of Valparaiso University. Through the 4th Annual Living Health, Balance, and Hope Symposium Keynote Breakfast,Dan Gediman, a 25-year radio producer (heard on All Things Considered, Morning Edition, Marketplace, Jazz Profiles, and This American Life) and editor of the This I Believe series since 2006, was able to ask everyone just what they believe.

“The state of mental health is very important in any type of family, organization, or general community situation; therefore, steps must be taken to further improve and motivate inspiration,”Jonathan Nalli, CEO of Porter Health Systems, said.

By sharing stories, goals, and personally reflecting on various happenings in life, we can appreciate and sometimes relate to one another. Through understanding and accepting every ones hopes and struggles, we allow ourselves to positively grow together. Three values Elliot Miller, Director of Marketing & Development at Porter-Starke Services, shared included: loyalty, consistency, and freedom.

“One of our goals at Porter-Stark is to inspire people as Dan Gediman promotes in the radio, book, and web series This I Believe. These are not just words on paper; they are words to action,” Miller said.

Rocky Schiralli’s, President and CEO of Porter-Starke Services, vision and confident values added to the community outreach approach. In addition, Sandy Carlson, Vice President of Clinical Services at Porter-Starke, conducts This I Believe Community Outreach discussions.

“We want to help motivate everyone to advance the health, balance, and hope of our community. Our mission is to inspire and to be inspired,” Schiralli said.

Dan Gediman sees himself as a steward of the This I Believe idea and the philosophies it exercises. What is so important in your life and why is it of so much value? Everyone can write, share their thoughts (or keep them private if desired), and understand and accept what they believe to be true. On a practical level, this is a very useful tool.

“I’ve been so impressed by places that use this including Porter-Starke, various health institutions, universities, and many other communities because it always has an effect on their community. It’s a trickle-down effect -you can say it’s close to the same way some organizations learn about each other on an intimate level. You can create a personal credo by acknowledging what makes you tick and also what motivates you,” Gediman said.

Dale Clapp, Vice President of Citizens Financial Bank and Chairman of Porter-Starke Services Board of Directors, thanked the Porter Starke Services sponsors which included: Porter Regional Hospital, Blachly, Tabor, Bozik, & Hartman, BMO Harris Bank, HighTower Scannell Wealth Management, The Times, Hoeppner, Wagner & Evans LLP, Indiana Beverage, Inn at Aberdeen, Ltd., 1st Source Bank, Bartholomew Funeral Home, Blue & Co., Chris & Laura Campbell, Citizens Financial Bank, Genetos Reston & Yoon, Golden Tech, The Extra Mile Fitness Company, and The Schiralli Family.

Porter-Starke, with the help of Valparaiso University, hosted a fantastic event that inspired and motivated members of the community to spread self-awareness and acceptance. It’s a community wide call to integrate friendly relations internally and also externally. Make sure to create some time in the future to attend the next Living Health, Balance, and Hope Symposium!
