Four Local Nonprofits Received Grants From The Power of Youth

Power-of-Giving-2011The United Way of Porter County’s Power of Youth Council held their allocation ceremony, The Power of Giving, on Monday, May 23 at the United Way of Porter County office.

The Power of Giving was the final event for the 2010-2011 Power of Youth Council. The Council allocated $9,000 to local nonprofits with programs that address teen substance abuse prevention.

The Power of Youth Council allocated grants to the following agencies: the Boys and Girls Club of Porter County for their SMART Moves (Skills Mastery And Resistance Training) program, the Visiting Nurse Association for their Center for Grief and Healing, Discoveries Unlimited for their S.T.E.M. mentoring program, and Stop the Hush’s Open Mic Night program.

POY-300x163Currently the Power of Youth Council is looking for representatives from Boone Grove, Chesteron, Hebron, Kouts, Morgan Township, Portage, Valparaiso, Washington Township and Wheeler high schools for the 2011-2012 school year.
