Former Notre Dame President Visits Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County (BGCPC) were visited by former Notre Dame University president Rev. Edward A. “Monk” Malloy. boys-girls-club

Father Malloy, who sits on the Board of Trustees for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America was asked to visit local clubs to learn more about the financial challenges and future improvement projects local clubs face.

BGCPC President Chuck Leer and Board of Directors Chairman David Hollenbeck orchestrated the visit with Father Malloy, which included a tour of both the South Haven and Portage locations. The young members of the South Haven Club welcomed Father Malloy by wearing their favorite Notre Dame attire.

Father Malloy has played a leadership role in efforts to promote community service and combat substance abuse and is a founding director of the Points of Light Foundation, member of the board of governors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, a member of the State of Indiana Community Service and Volunteer Committee and the Indiana Commission on Community Service (Indiana AmeriCorps).

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County have multiple club sites located in Valparaiso, South Haven, Portage and Chesterton and offer Porter County children ages 5-18 a variety of after school programs and activities that engage youth in activities that support health and fitness, character and leadership development, education and career exploration and the arts. In addition, BGCPC also offers daily before and after school child care through their Kidstop program which is available at various elementary schools in Porter County.
