A Portage Life in the Spotlight: Fallon Pugh

Fallon-PughDuring the 2012 annual meeting for the Portage Economic Development Corporation (PEDCO), Portage High School senior Fallon Pugh was recognized for her outstanding work throughout the community. Pugh has spent over 30 hours of her high school career devoted to giving back to the community. Jon Groth, the principal of the Porter County Career and Technical Center, nominated Pugh along with PHS seniors Alex Schreier and Cody Piro. Pugh was ultimately honored because of her outstanding amount of community service.

“I think it’s good to give back, especially to people who do things right and then something awful happens,” Pugh said.

Pugh has participated in many community events over her years. Recently, she has participated in battle of the bands event, packaging meals for the homeless around the community, raising money for families in need and helping out with children in the community. We can clearly see that Pugh enjoys helping others.

Now, you might be thinking, how does this girl do it? Pugh said, “It’s definitely hard to balance everything, but you just have to learn to make time.”

Pugh is enrolled in the Health Occupations vocational course. Just as a senior, she has already earned her CNA license. On top of her outstanding community service and vocational class, she is involved with the school musical. Pugh has always felt very passionately toward music.

Pugh does not want to waste any time outside of high school. She has already enrolled at PNC for the next month. She plans to study pre-nursing so she can work in the Emergency Room. After some time, Pugh wants to start a family and get an office job so she can spend time with her kids. She is a very kid-oriented person and loves spending time with them.

“Honestly, I would have to say it’s my peers that inspire me so much. I don’t think it’s a certain person I just think it’s the act of people who are young that do more to make a difference,” Pugh said.

Throughout the community Pugh really makes a difference. She strives to make our town the best it can be. Her love of community and service is a perfect combination for an ideal citizen.
