Porter County Parks Receives State Honor in 2016

On Wednesday, January 13, 2016, Porter County Parks & Recreation was honored with the Excellence in Resource Improvement Award at the Indiana Parks and Recreation Association Annual Conference. Superintendent, Walter Lenckos, accepted the award on behalf of the Board and Department in recognition of the work that has been done at Brincka Cross Gardens County Park over the last several years.

The Indiana Parks and Recreation Association defines the The Excellence in Resource Improvement Award as one that “recognizes an agency or park team for its exceptional management of an existing park, trail, natural area, recreation, and/or aquatic facility asset over time. Nominees should demonstrate a record of improvement through quality maintenance and operations, efforts to retain and enhance the resource over time, creative problem-solving in the areas of budget, staffing, physical and/or environmental constraints, and/or introduction of new programs or activities that ensure continued use and optimization of the asset.”

Over the years that Porter County has managed Brincka Cross Gardens, the park has seen a significant increase in visitors, programming, trails and resources as well as exceptional management of the variety of species of unique flora and fauna that call Brincka Cross home.
