80th Anniversary Festival Honors County Icon

80th-Anniversary-PosterThis Saturday Porter County Parks and Recreation will be hosting a family reunion style festival to celebrate 80 Years of Sunset Hill Farm from 11am-3pm at Sunset Hill Farm County Park at 775 Meridian, Valparaiso. Sunset Hill’s history dates back to 1934 as a farm owned by Colonel Murray and his family. Later on, this property was donated and repurposed into the Sunset Hill Farm County Park that exists today, still keeping ties to its roots as a family farm through programming and partnerships.

Saturday’s event will welcome back individuals who have played key roles at Sunset Hill, both in its years as a farm and its more recent endeavor as a county park. At 12:30pm there will be a brief pause in festivities to honor the late Ethel & Llloyd Prosser and Art Willing who were instrumental to both the farm and park.

In addition to serving as a reunion and opportunity to honor these key individuals, Saturday’s event will be an open community festival, giving community members the opportunity to come out and enjoy a beautiful day in the park.

The event will include an old time baseball game at noon between the famous Deep River Grinders and Sunset Hill Colonels in addition to various other activities and attractions for all age groups. Bounce N Around’s Mega 360 Inflatable Obstacle Course, Laser Ball of Northwest Indiana (from 12-2pm), face painting, wagon rides, games and crafts will all be on the days agenda for families to enjoy!
