NIPSCO to Upgrade Energy Infrastructure in Dyer Temporary Lane Closure along Route 30

rot2NIPSCO will start construction on an energy infrastructure upgrade in the Town of Dyer. This upgrade is part of the company’s long-term modernization plan to replace vintage underground circuits, aging poles and electrical transmission lines as well as adding additional power supply to support future growth across northern Indiana.

Beginning October 17, NIPSCO will start construction to replace and upgrade the existing utility poles and overhead electrical distribution lines along US 30 (Lincoln Highway), in Dyer. The upgrade will include adding an additional 12 kilovolt (kV) power supply to each utility pole to better serve the energy needs of residents and businesses in Dyer. This project is expected to last through the end of December 2018, weather permitting.

Through the duration of the upgrade, the southern lane, heading eastbound on RT 30 (Lincoln Highway) will be closed from Hart Street to Great Lakes Drive. The lane closure will be in effect Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. CDT. Crews may need to work occasional evenings and weekends. Signs will be posted prior to lane closures and flaggers will be on site directing traffic during construction hours.

Some businesses and a handful of residents near the area may experience brief interruptions in their electric service during the upgrade, and NIPSCO will be notifying the affected customers directly ahead of time.

The public is encouraged to exercise caution when traveling near any construction zone to ensure personal safety and the safety of construction crews working on this project.

NIPSCO appreciates the patience of the community during these important infrastructure modernization project and will continue to work with Town of Dyer officials to minimize customer impacts.
