South Shore Providing Extra Service During 2016 Thanksgiving Week

SouthShoreNICTDThis weekend kicks off the holiday season along the South Shore Line! Experience the magic of the season at some of the most anticipated events like the spectacular Magnificent Mile Lights Festival, the annual Chicago Tree Lighting Ceremony in Millennium Park and the traditional German Christkindlmarket in the Chicago Loop.

To ensure we provide the best experience possible to our riders this holiday season, we will be offering additional Eastbound trains and have made our holiday train and ticket office schedules available in advance. Please see the announcement below for more information.

Extra Eastbound Departures from Millennium StationThese extra trains will not serve Hudson Lake or South Bend 

  • Saturday, November 19 (Magnificent Mile Lights Festival) departing @8:00 p.m., and Van Buren St. @8:03 p.m. running non-stop to Hegewisch and making all local stops terminating in Michigan City.
  • Wednesday, November 23 departing @2:00 p.m., and Van Buren St. @2:03 p.m. running non-stop to Hegewisch and making all local stops terminating in Michigan City.
  • Saturday, November 26 departing @4:25 p.m., and Van Buren St. @ 4:28 p.m. running non-stop to Hegewisch and making all local stops terminating in Michigan City.

Train Schedule

  • Thursday, November 24 (Chicago’s Thanksgiving Parade) – We will operate a weekend/holiday schedule in observance of Thanksgiving Day.
  • Friday, November 25 – We will operate a weekday schedule on the Friday following Thanksgiving Day.

Ticket Office Schedule - If ticket office is closed please purchase from ticket vending machine (credit or debit only), our mobile app, or on train (cash only).

  • November 19-20 – all offices will be closed except South Bend, Van Buren St. and Millennium Station. November 21-23 – ticket offices will observe normal hours.
  • November 24 - all offices will be closed except Millennium Station and Van Buren St.
  • November 25 – ticket offices will observe normal hours.
  • November 26 – ticket offices at S. Bend, Carroll Ave., East Chicago, Van Buren St. and Millennium will be open
  • November 27 – all offices will be closed except South Bend, Van Buren St. and Millennium Station.

NICTD administrative offices in Chesterton and Michigan City will be closed November 24-25 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.
