United-Way-PC-LogoUnited Way of Porter County AmeriCorps program is seeking new members and host sites for their 2016 summer session.

AmeriCorps provides the opportunity to get things done in Northwest Indiana. AmeriCorps members gain new skills and experiences while meeting critical needs in Lake, Porter, LaPorte and Marshall Counties. Skill areas and experiences include volunteer recruitment, management and training while assisting with area summer programs.

“These opportunities are ideal for individuals looking to make a positive impact in a short amount of time,” said Kim Olesker, President & CEO of United Way of Porter County. “AmeriCorps members have had tremendous satisfaction serving in this capacity.”

The summer program runs from mid-May through July 31 and is available at a variety of nonprofit organizations throughout Northwest Indiana. Applicants must be 18 years or older and a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident.

Participants will receive a stipend of $2,000. All members who successfully complete their term of service receive an Eli Segal Education Award of $1,222. The education award can be used to pay for educational expenses or to pay back qualified student loan debt. AmeriCorps members with qualifying student loans are eligible for student loan deferment during their term of service.

Nonprofit organizations interested in becoming a host site must provide a full 8-week, 40 hour a week placement. There is agency cost share for each AmeriCorps member placement.
