Power of Youth Receives Grant From DoSomething.org

United Way of Porter County Power of Youth Council was awarded the $250 Club Grant from DoSomething.org POY-300x163for making a difference in the Porter County community by hosting the Battle of the Bands: Battle Against Drugs. The Power of Youth Council is a youth philanthropy program consisting of Porter County high school students that are dedicated to improving and creating a positive perspective of youth through performance of valuable services that benefit others.

“Power of Youth is a leader in our Clubs Program through their incredible work and dedication,” said Mike Fantini, Do Something’s Clubs Associate. “They are really making a difference and we are happy to present them with the Club Grant.”

The Power of Youth Council is currently more than half way to their $8,000 goal and with the upcoming “Walk For Awareness,” they seek to meet their desired amount. The money raised will be awarded to local nonprofits with programs that address teen substance abuse prevention and early treatment in Porter County. Grant applications are currently available on the Power of Youth website at THEPOWEROFYOUTH.ORG

By hosting the “Walk For Awareness,” the Power of Youth Council wants to spread awareness about the growing concern for teen substance abuse and join in the fight against addiction among their peers.

The walk will be an early evening walk held on June 7, 2010 starting at 5 p.m. and ending at 8 p.m. The walkers will gather at 3176 Lancer St. in Portage.

Pledge forms and instructions on how to register for the walk are available at THEPOWEROFYOUTH.ORG by clicking on “forms.”
