The Portage Township YMCA is hosting family fun in October times two. Fairy Gardens have gained quite the following and the Portage YMCA promises to deliver with their Fall Family Fairy Garden Fundraiser, taking place on Sunday, October 7, 2018 from 2pm-4pm at their facility located at 3100 Willowcreek Rd., Portage, IN. For just $25 per garden, families will have all the supplies necessary to create a fall-themed fairy garden complete with mums. Funds raised will support the purchase of new hand weights for their revved-up group exercise schedule, having something for everyone. Tickets may be purchased online or at the Y.
Also, in October, the Portage YMCA will hold its 5th annual Halloween Trick-or-Treat Trail Walk from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 12, 2018. Amber Bardsley, School Age Child Care Coordinator said, “Last year was my first year in-charge of this event and I have been planning the decorations for this year ever since. Lots of work goes into the Trail Walk, beginning to decorate weeks before and without the help of dedicated staff & volunteers, I’d never be able to pull this off. This event is important for so many reasons. It is a safe alternative to traditional trick-or-treating and it gives the community an opportunity to come together and give back.”
Proceeds from the Trail Walk benefit the before and after school child care program, Y-Care, that was established in 1984. Y-Care provides children in grades K-8, a safe place to do homework, stimulate minds with morning Yoga, eat a 5-component meal in the evenings with S.T.E.A.M. activities to continue the fun in learning.
This event is family-friendly for children and adults of all-ages! Families will trek through our haunted trail, collecting candy & goodies at each stop. Before or after the fun, stop in their Y-Café for delicious concessions. New this year will be a pumpkin carving contest, bounce house and additional games available in the gymnasium with affordable game tickets for sale.
Costumes are preferred, but not required. Don't forget your candy bucket! It's just $5 per YMCA member family and $10 per non-member family. All our welcome! Beat the lines and pre-purchase your family ticket online.
