There’s no better way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day than by eating corned beef and cabbage and Rittenhouse Village at Portage cooked plenty to share on Friday! To raise money for the Bonner Senior Center in Portage and the Maria Reiner Senior Center in Hobart, Rittenhouse at Portage hosted its Annual Corned Beef and Cabbage fundraiser last week where residents and team members ate tasty food, played a special raffle, and raised money for a great cause.
Rittenhouse is proud to support other centers in the area that work just as hard to take care of local seniors and can often be found rounding up community members for even stronger support. Rittenhouse Executive Director Marsha Leonard said, “We love bringing so many new faces into our senior community and raising funds for the local senior centers who serve our seniors every day!”
Like Rittenhouse, the Bonner Center and Maria Reiner Center play significant roles in Northwest Indiana’s senior community. The Bonner Center serves as a nutrition site for seniors as well a way of transportation to and from the center, doctor’s appointments, the grocery store, and pharmacy for those who depend on the center’s buses.
The Maria Reiner Center also provides transportation for seniors in Northwest Indiana in Hobart in addition to the numerous activities they have for individuals to partake in. Some events test seniors’ hearing while others are thrown just for socialization, like karaoke. The events, classes, and recreation at the Maria Reiner Center impact the senior community to live happy and healthy lives.
None of the positive influence that the Bonner Center and Maria Reiner Center has had on the senior community would be possible without generous donations from other organizations like Rittenhouse Village at Portage. Rittenhouse understands how important it is to have resources such as these for seniors, and that’s why they host fundraisers like the Corned Beef and Cabbage event and several other annual fundraising events, including a car show in the summer!
