Portage YMCA Pee Wee Prom, A Memorable Night of Fun

The Annual Pee Wee Prom at the Portage Township YMCA was a wonderful way for kids and families to dress up and dance the night away. The theme of this year’s dance was a Mardi Gras Masquerade. As parents and kids wore festive masks for a fun evening, they also raised money for the Preschool Academy.

Parents were not only able to engage with their kids in a fun and memorable way, but also learn more about all of the excellent activities that the YMCA throws each year. The Event Family Director at the YMCA, Cathi Srednoselac, shared how this event was the perfect opportunity for the families and staff to connect.

“The Pee Wee Prom helps us connect with the families, and the families to connect with us,” Srednoselac added. “I think this event creates special memories for the kids.”

The excitement began with small bites, beverages, and delicious desserts. Mother and son and father and daughter couples posed for photos at the Hot Shot Photo Booth. There was nothing more special for the parents than to see their children dance to their favorite tunes during the big balloon drop. For many parents and kids, the Pee Wee Prom was the perfect way to create new memories while share old ones with friends.

The Marketing Director at the YMCA, Erin Robles, explained how the staff has ensured to create the safest environment where kids can have fun.

“This event is great for our community because it gives kids a safe place to come, to dance and to be free of judgment,” Robles emphasized. “It welcomes anybody and everybody!”

An attending parent, Amy Tinnel, described why it is the perfect place for families.

“This is more of a social event, a chance for everybody to get to spend time together,” Tinnel explained. “All of the kids can dance and see their friends from preschool. I think it is just really a good place for families to be."

For many parents this event will hold a special place in their hearts forever. Robles shared what this event means to her and why it is particularly special.

“It is special to me because I get to come with my children. I think it is a reminder that my babies are really not babies anymore,” Robles shared. “This event is geared for kids 7 and under, but we would not turn away anyone. I love seeing the kids and how they get a chance to get all dressed up and get so excited.”

The kids really are the inspiration for this event, as Srednoselac explained, seeing the kids happy is why she loves being part of this event.

“I love doing this, especially for the kids,” Srednoselac said. “I love to see their faces light up as they’re having fun and to see them be out there with their friends. The Pee Wee Prom is a great way for the kids to do something outside of class.”

The Pee Wee Prom was the cutest way for families to spend time together. The YMCA and Preschool Academy staff were to thank for the countless hours put into planning this event. The Pee Wee Prom was the first big dance for many kids, and as they grow it will be a special one to remember.
