St. Francis Church, Porter County Animal Shelter and Best Buddies Pet Pantry Link for Blessing of the Pets

Porter-County-Animal-Shelter-LogoContinuing a tradition of many years, St. Francis’ Episcopal Church will have a Blessing of the Pets Saturday October 4th from 10:00am to 12:00pm on the church grounds at 237 E. Porter Ave., Chesterton (one mile east of Hwy 49). The event is open to all in the community who want to bring their pet to be blessed by Fr. Thomas Kincaid and presented with a St. Francis medallion. The pets should be appropriately leashed or confined.

The Porter County Animal Shelter (with a "No Kill" policy) will also be participating this year, bringing pets that are available for adoption. Donations to the shelter of canned dog/cat/puppy/kitten food will be accepted (see their web site for additional items: http://portercoanimalshelter.com)

Participating for the first time will be Best Buddies Pet Pantry. Best Buddies provides nourishment to the pets of individuals that are receiving state or federal assistance with the aim of keeping pets in the homes of their owners and not surrendering them to the shelter or abandoning them into the streets. They will be accepting donations to help keep the pantry filled during upcoming winter months. Their web site is http://www.bestbuddiespetpantry.org

Refreshments will be served for dogs, cats and their human companions.

The Blessing event is held each year around the October 4th Fest day of St. Francis of Assisi, the 13th century patron saint of animals who was known for his love of all animals.
