Portage Schools to Host Mobile Marketplace for Township Families

Portage-Township-Schools-LogoPortage Township Schools is working with the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana to provide the township’s residents with easier access to healthy food. The school district will be hosting a Mobile Marketplace available to all residents of Portage Township on June 21 at Willowcreek Middle School.

The Marketplace, which is put together by the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, will provide free grains, fruits, vegetables and protein to members of the community. In order to access the Marketplace, individuals must show valid proof of residency within the township.

The Marketplace is first-come first-served. Residents need to bring their own boxes or bags to carry the items.

Currently, the Marketplace is slated to run once a month in Portage Township at either Willowcreek Middle School or Portage High School. As the program becomes more regular and as it brings in more volunteers, the Marketplace will operate on a more frequent basis. The Marketplace was founded by the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana to provide access to healthy foods for families in need. Compared to the Food Bank, the Marketplace provides a more localized place for families to acquire nutritional food options.

Volunteer opportunities are available for the community.
