Portage-High-School-Junior-Earns-2500-Scholarship-from-EVERFIAn essay on the importance of financial literacy has earned Portage High School junior Isabelle Minard a $2,500 scholarship.

EVERFI, a digital learning company who hosts the Finance Academy, visited the school on May 25 to deliver Minard her award, which will be deposited in a 529 College Savings account. Minard was one of 28 students across the country to receive the award; over 3,600 students applied.

Minard said she attributes her success to taking the personal finance course with business teacher Marjorie Slamkowski at the high school. She also attributes her strong writing skills to high school English teacher James Downes.

EVERFI representative Marissa Moore visited Slamkowski’s classes last month to advertise the essay contest and deliver a short course to the students on entrepreneurship and personal finance.
