Portage Township Schools Update, May 4, 2018

Kyle Elementary
Third grade students from Kyle did a science experiment this morning. They had to prep and package a raw egg how ever they wanted to and then the principle Mr. Sopko dropped the egg from the roof. The egg package was then opened up to make sure the egg did not drop and it was checked to make sure the egg was raw.

The kindergarten classes at Myers Elementary School learned about caring for the earth during Earth Week. Students read and made books. These students made earth day hats. "They have the whole world in their hands"

Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Campbell’s reading buddies took advantage of this beautiful day, to take a nature walk on our campus. They got together and completed a work sheet to document what they saw and heard during their walk.

On Wednesday, May 2nd Congressman Pete Visclosky met with a group PHS seniors for a question and answer session!

On Tuesday, May 1st, PHS students participated in Youth Government Day. 11 PHS seniors were elected by fellow classmates to job shadow city officials. PHS participants were:

Mayor – Jimmy Craven
Clerk-Treasurer – Andrea Vance
Police Chief – Riley Damian
Fire Chief – Drake Guerrero

On Wednesday May 2nd, the freshman baseball team faced numerous rain delays in a 7-7 tie at Munster High School. Players had an opportunity to interact with fellow middle/high school students while waiting for play to resume.
