Portage Township Schools Provides Free Breakfast to All Students This Week

The Food Services Department at Portage Township Schools is offering free breakfast to all students the week of March 5 through 9.

Students at each school have been visiting their cafeterias each day this week to receive a healthy breakfast served by the Food Services staff.

The initiative is part of National School Breakfast Week, which raises awareness of the importance of eating a healthy breakfast before school each day. The U.S. Department of Agriculture data shows that an increasing number of students are eating breakfast in their school cafeterias.

Studies show that students who eat school breakfast are more likely to perform well in math, achieve higher scores on standardized tests, pay attention in class, attend school, and maintain a healthy weight.

National School Breakfast Week is sponsored by the School Nutrition Association and Kellogg’s.
