Myers Elementary
Mrs. Pam Cochran’s kindergarten from students from George L. Myers Elementary got a visit from Alison Andersen, an outreach educator, from the Porter County Recycling District. The students learned about the life cycle of a ladybug and how important ladybugs help our environment. Students each got to observe ladybugs up close through a magnifying box and then release their ladybugs into the environment.

PHS World Language Department
On Thursday, May 4th, 2017, the teachers of the World Language Department held their 29th annual World Language Honor Society Induction Ceremony. This year, 91 students were inducted into the WLHS. To be nominated for induction, a student must carry a grade of an A for 3 consecutive semesters after level 1 in the language they are studying. This year's guests of honor were Dr. Michael Stevens, PTS Assistant Superintendent, and Mr. Max Gill, PHS Principal. Our guest speaker with Miss Angelica Lopez, a senior currently in Spanish 4. Angelica shared some stories about her study abroad last summer through a program we partner with at PHS called the Indiana University Honors Program in Foreign Languages (IUHPFL). This program. As part of the ceremony, students are each given an unlit candle. The WL teachers then go to each of the students and says the motto of the organization in the target language. As each student repeats the motto after the teacher, his/her candle is lit by the teacher's candle. After the candle ceremony, each student is presented with a certificate of induction as well as a medal. PHS allows students to wear these medals at graduation, and students' transcripts are noted that they have been inducted as a member of this prestigious organization.
