PHS Business Professionals of America Strikes Gold in Orlando

Wednesday, May 10 through Sunday, May 14, PHS senior’s Chris Shafer and Cruz Rosales traveled with their advisor and business teacher Lisa Melendez to compete in the final leg of Business Professionals of America competition cycle which is national competition with representation from all 50 states. Six thousand students, advisors and chaperones converged on Orlando, Florida to compete in over 100 different business related categories.

Chris Shafer placed in the top 10 in the nation in Java Programming and Cruz Rosales placed in the top 20 for C++ programming.

Advisor Lisa Melendez was also honored for her work with BPA in the last five years.

The two seniors have had an amazing school year and now look forward to graduation Sunday June 4, and the future is bright for both as Chris Shafer who finishes his high school career as an ACE (Academic Champions Excelling in School) and will be attending Notre Dame University in South Bend in the Fall. Cruz Rosales will ship off to the Marines Corp and follow the footsteps of his mother and father and their service to this country and will begin basic training in September.

Ms. Melendez says she will miss both dearly as she has watched both change and grow into the respectable and handsome young men that they are now.
