David G. Sedrak of Schererville, a Purdue University Northwest mechanical engineering student, has received a $6,000 Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) Foundation Steel Intern Scholarship.

The scholarship is awarded annually to talented, dedicated engineering students as encouragement to pursue careers within the steel industry and take advantage of internship opportunities and financial assistance. Scholarship recipients also must commit to a paid summer internship at a North American steel company or industrial supplier.

“This scholarship provides students an opportunity to work with industry, gain hands-on experience and prepare for the workforce,” Purdue Northwest Professor and Head of the Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering George Nnanna said.

Previously, Sedrak received the 2015-16 AIST Foundation Steel Scholarship and the 2014-15 AIST Foundation William E. Schwabe Memorial Scholarship intended for deserving engineering, metallurgical or materials science students who demonstrate academic excellence and effective leadership abilities.
