Portage Township Schools Update, April 8, 2016

Central Elementary
On April 1st students at Central Elementary in Portage participated in a festive event that their head custodian, Miss Mary, put on for the entire school. This day is known to the students as "Beach Day." Students are encouraged to bring in beach towels and the cafeteria is colorfully decorated with beach items. Students are served a picnic lunch where they sit and eat with friends on their beach towels and dance to tropical tunes.

Kyle Elementary
People from the Recycling Waste Reduction District of Porter County came in to visit the 3rd grade. Mrs. Dimiele's class were motivated in learning all about recycling, reducing, reusing, and recovery.

Myers Elementary
Myers Elementary kindergarten students were visited by "Professor Popcorn" a.k.a. Mrs. Ashcroft from Purdue University to learn and practice Healthy Habits. By making good eating choices, exercise - just move your body and keeping clean, the children learned about keeping a healthy life.

Saylor Elementary
Ms. Meiss' 5th grade class and Miss Filipidis' Kindergarten class played Sight Word Easter Hunt. Students searched for sight words in the court yard, and then made sentences with the the words they found. It was a fun and creative way for them to reinforce sight words and sentence structure.
