Myers Elementary
Imagine you are living 10,000 years in the past. No cars, no computers, not even cell phones or fast food! Fourth graders at Myers’ Elementary took a step back in time this week as they learned about the earliest people and how they survived and were able to develop into larger civilizations. Students each played a part in their “tribe”, whose ultimate goal was to grow the largest civilization by the end of the three day simulation. Students needed to make decisions about everything from which mushrooms to eat, to whether to create steel or construct walls. When asked why some tribes prospered while others did not, Jordyn Severson responded, “The choices we made affected how well our tribe developed,” which is a connection the students realized still applies to their lives and our society today. While students enjoyed their travels back to the Neolithic Era, they were still happy to return to their Ipads and hot school lunches!
