Portage High School Update, January 8, 2016

World Language Department
Here are the showcases at Portage high School West. These were done by the German department and the Spanish Department to celebrate the holidays. Happy New Year to All! These pictures were submitted by Brighitte Snemis.

Government Class
Students in Mrs. Wysocki's Government class write letters to politicians which will be sent out when the semester ends. Some wrote to First Lady Michelle Obama about the school lunch program. Others wrote to President Obama, Trump, and Mayor Snyder. Most often times the students receive a response!

Student Volunteers
On December 4th 2015 Twenty of our PHS students volunteered their time to help out at the Portage Township YMCA's Evening with Santa event. Pictured are sophomore Mackenzie Grindey and Senior Morelia Hernandez gearing up for an evening of fun!

MCJROTC
Cadets from Portage High School Marine Corps JROTC came together and collected nearly 3,500 food items and $150 for the annual PHS MCJROTC Annual Food Drive. All items and monies were donated to the Portage Food Pantry to help those in need.

Building Class
This fall the students in the Building Trades program have finished the exterior overhangs, windows, doors, stone veneer and vinyl siding. We are receiving our interior materials and will be starting the interior finishes as soon as all the electrical and HVAC is has completed the rough in portion of the mechanicals. Hopefully the house should be up for sale at the end of the school year. The picture included is the students moving insulation and drywall into the new home.
