Portage High School Update, October 2, 2015

Nearly 230 cadets from the Portage High School Marine Corps JROTC marched in the Homecoming Parade on September 24th 2015. The formation was led by the PHS MCJROTC Color Guard and commanded by the Cadet Executive Officer Cadet First Lieutenant Zach Smith and Cadet Sergeant Major Amanda Kirka.

Exciting Activities on October 14th
Exciting things are happening at Portage High School the morning of October 14th. Sophomores and juniors will be taking the PSAT while freshman and seniors will be involved in career exploration and college bound experiences. Seniors will have the opportunity to choose between their own preplanned college visits or college visits with PHS to Ivy Tech, Purdue North Central, or Indiana University Northwest. Additional opportunities will include a manufacturing tour of Fronius USA located right here in Portage and guest presentations from the military focusing on budgeting and how to be successful after high school. Freshmen will be involved in a presentation by our Career and Technical Education staff that outlines vocational opportunities and requirements, a guest presentation from Champions Together, a partnership between the Indiana High School Athletic Association and Special Olympics Indiana that promotes leadership among student athletes and those with intellectual disabilities, and completion of career interest inventories through Portage’s college and career readiness program Naviance.

Project Lead the Way,br /> Students in Project Lead the Way classes are eligible to receive dual credits as early as their freshman year. These students are filling out the online application for Ivy Tech. When they graduate from high school they will have a jump start on their college diploma.
