PHS-September-4-15-Update-01Walgreens Donation
We would like to give a huge shout out and thank you to the Walgreen stores of Portage. They have generously donated to our Portage High School Tribe Pride program. This program is used to reward our students who make good choices. Our two store managers, Trey Gilliana and Glenn Quillen, were on hand to present me with the check. Thanks again for the generosity of the community in supporting our students.

Portage High School College Fair
Portage High School will host its annual college fair from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16th in the PHS East building. In addition to college and university representations, displays will be set up by career and technical schools, the military and apprenticeship programs. More than 70 colleges and organizations are expected to participate in this very successful fair.

This is an opportunity for high school students to begin the process of communicating directly with college representatives. High school students often feel overwhelmed or confused about the college application process. This setting provides students with an opportunity to ask questions, get answers, and walk away with brochures to peruse at a later time. Students are provided with the opportunity to compare one college with another and to search for colleges with their intended major. Meeting with a college rep at the college fair might provide additional information that isn't found on the college website.

Parents are encouraged to attend this event with their students. Students from other districts and adults from the community are also invited to attend.

PHS-September-4-15-Update-02Good news from the foreign language dept at PHS
Mme Flynn's French 1 classes have been busy learning how to introduce themselves, ask someone's name, introduce someone to someone else, ask and tell how they're doing, wish someone a good day, and say good bye! Every day they practice these mini conversations with their classmates, pretending to be strangers who are meeting for the first time. We typically add one more part to the conversation every day. They can also tell someone's nationality, and soon will learn how to tell how old they are. These photos show them participating in these conversations.
