Robert McEwen aced the exam for Certified Solidworks Associate (CSWA) on his first try in his Computer Aided Design & Animation class.
He take the half-day course at the Porter County Career and Technical Center in Valparaiso and plans to continue in CAD 2 as a senior.
On the test, said William Guinee, instructor, a student has to make parts, make assemblies, take measurements and more on the computer. Every student's test is a random collection of assignments.
"I was just aiming for passing," McEwen noted, adding that he had studied until midnight the night before.
McEwen is currently looking at engineering schools and may pursue mechanical engineering or a Cad-related field. In his spare time, he likes to play video games and participate in an after-school engineering club at PHS.
