Purdue Alumni Offer 2 Scholarships to Students

PurdueLogoThe Purdue Alumni Club of Northwest Indiana would like to announce that its 2015 Scholarship Applications are now available. There are two scholarships that the Club offers, a Book Scholarship and a Purdue Scholar Award.

The Purdue Alumni Club of Northwest Indiana’s Book Scholarship is for graduating high school seniors that plan on attending any of the Purdue Campuses in the Fall of 2015. The scholarship is worth $700 for a year and the following is some of the criteria for the scholarship:

The graduating high school senior must be enrolled in a Northwest Indiana High School.
The graduating high school senior must be attending any of the Purdue University Campuses in the Fall of 2015.
The graduating high school senior must excel in both academics and in extra-curricular activities.

Applications for the Book Scholarship are due by April 1, 2015.

The Purdue Alumni Club of Northwest Indiana’s Purdue Scholar Award is available to current Purdue Students who have completed their first year at any of the Purdue Campuses. The scholarship is worth $1200 for the year and here is some of the criteria for the scholarship:
Must be enrolled at or have completed at least 24 credit hours at Purdue
Must have a permanent residence in a county within the Club area. (Counties include: Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Jasper and Newton)

“This is a great year to be a Boilermaker”, said Jon Schmaltz, Chairperson of the Scholarship Committee and Indiana North Director with the Purdue Alumni Association. “We are excited about the programs that are developing at Purdue through research and degrees. We are also excited about helping more students from Northwest Indiana choose Purdue by awarding them a scholarship. Along with the distinguished awards that Purdue has been receiving lately.”

Following the Purdue standards of excellence, the Purdue Alumni Club of Northwest Indiana has awarded over 25 students, who were either #1 in their class or had scored over an 1800 on their SATs. Jon Schmaltz continued to state,” The Purdue Alumni Club of Northwest Indiana has helped over 60 students in over 20 different academic areas, that have needed financial assistance,” Schmaltz continued by saying “ It is our goal to give as many scholarships as possible to deserving individuals to help them have a great start on their Purdue education, which has become more affordable than ever.”

Applications for the Purdue Scholar Award are due by March 20, 2015.

The applications for both the Purdue Book Scholarship and the Purdue Scholar Award are available on the Club’s website www.purduealumni.org/nwindiana/scholarships.

The Purdue Alumni Club of Northwest Indiana is pleased to be hosting their first ever Wine Tasting on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant in Merrillville, Indiana from 6:30pm to 9:30pm. The Club will be enjoying several pre-selected wines and heavy appetizers – unlimited wine and food during the entire event. What a perfect way to forget about the cold weather outside! Come warm up with your favorite wine alongside your fellow Purdue Alum! Club Treasurer Michael Shultz said “The Purdue Alumni Club of Northwest Indiana wanted to try a new and exciting event this year, so there is not a better way to do this then having a wine tasting! We are letting our fellow Purdue Alum in Northwest Indiana that we are here in the area and it would great to meet them.” Tickets for this event are $35 per person and are available on the Club’s website, along with more information.
