Myers Elementary Math Club Works Together to Solve Problems

Myers-Elementary-School-01-23-15 01“While walking on the beach, Ken finds 1 seashell on the 1st day. He finds 2 seashells on the 2nd day, 5 seashells on the 3rd day, 14 seashells on the 4th day, and 41 seashells on the 5th day. If the pattern continues, how many seashells will Ken find on the 6th and 7th days?” All you can hear are slight whispers and the tapping of fingers on calculators as Myers Elementary Students work in groups of three to four people to get ready for the Indiana Math Bowl Competition.

Math Club is one of the many exciting clubs that Myers Elementary offers to students in 4th and 5th grade. They meet weekly and review strategies on how to solve challenging problems like the one given above. The competition will have four rounds consisting of 8 questions per round, a total of 32 questions. With only a month left to go, Myers students are continuing to work hard in hopes of beating their record last year. The competition will be taking place on February 26, 2015.
