Mayor Snyder came to talk to some of the Social Studies classes at Portage High School on Tuesday, December 16, 2014. Mayor Snyder fielded questions about what was being built in front of Meijer's and why we don't currently have a Sonic. These and the answers to many more questions helped connect the students to our local Portage government.
The Mayor also described how the local government in Portage works by explaining the city council and the departments that help support the city. He also stressed the importance for voting in local elections and how decisions made at city hall affect the students lives. One thing the students didn't realize about the Mayor is that he does not decide which businesses come to Portage. He tries to encourage businesses to come to our city, but the businesses ultimately decide where they will develop. While we may be getting another mattress store, we WILL be getting a Chipotle and another mystery development to be released soon near the Ameriplex complex.
