Mr. Hills’ PHS Geography and History of the World Class Learns of Tourism in Central, South America

phs-geography-history-2014After completing their unit on Central and South America, students were asked to create a brochure for a country of their choosing. Students were permitted to choose any country that had been covered in class, with the exception of the United States. Students chose many different countries from Canada to Argentina.

Popular choices among students included Mexico, Jamaica, Brazil, and the Bahamas. Some students, however, selected lesser-known countries such as El Salvador or Uruguay. Once they had picked a country, students were responsible for researching information about the history and tourism of each place. It was mandatory that students included information about the climate, but much of the rest was left to student design. Some students included additional information including travel expenses and hotel accommodations.

This project was meant to allow students to create their own form of learning, as an alternative to more traditional assignments. Students seemed to enjoy making their brochures, and many brochures turned out really great!
