Portage High School Special Education Department News, November 20, 2014

PHS-LogoSpecial education students at Portage High School continue to work on skills for the upcoming ECA tests in December for both Algebra and English. Many stay after school for JumpStart as well as getting additional instruction and remediation in the Differentiated Instruction Labs in English and math.

Mrs. Frederick’s Multi-level math class was divided into two groups and made cookies. They had to get the correct ingredients, follow the recipe, measure everything correctly, and bake them. One group's cookies were great; the other group's cookies had too much salt and were barely edible. It was a great learning experience for all.

One of our staff members at PHS is participating in Autism training to become part of the county-wide Autism team. Diane Dominguez will be one of our “go to” teachers in Portage for questions and assistance in educating Portage students with Autism.
