Purdue Calumet Riley Child Center Gains NAEYC Re-Accreditation

PUC-LogoPurdue University Calumet’s Riley Child Center has earned re-accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Accreditation by NAEYC implies Purdue Calumet’s center has demonstrated a safe and healthy environment, staffed by well-trained teachers who use a curriculum that is appropriately challenging and developmentally sound for active learners. The Riley Child Center has been accredited by NAEYC since 1987.

“Only about 8 percent of all preschools and early childhood education programs earn NAEYC accreditation,” Riley Child Center Director Tamra Bottomlee said. “NAEYC accreditation indicates that children in our high quality program have teachers who create engaging classrooms, enhance relationships with their parents and families, and develop rich experiences for our children.”

The campus-based Riley Child Center offers preschool, kindergarten, child care services and summer programming for children ages 3 to 6 of faculty, staff, students and community residents. Operated under the supervision of Purdue Calumet’s Department of Behavioral Sciences, the center also provides laboratory learning experiences for Purdue Calumet students studying human development and family studies, nursing, psychology, education and dietary.
