The Indiana University Northwest campus and the Northwest Indiana community are invited to hear a presentation by Shari Veil, Ph.D., Director of the Risk Sciences Division at the University of Kentucky, who will speak about readiness for community crises.
Veil’s presentation will take place 6 p.m., Thursday April 24 in Raintree Hall (room 102), as a part of the IU Northwest Department of Communication’s Annual Communication Week.
Veil oversees the recruitment, advisement and retention of more than 400 communication majors and coordinates research, funding, education, and training programs specific to risk and crisis communication. Her research interests include organizational learning in high-risk environments, community preparedness, and communication strategies for crisis management. She teaches courses in risk and crisis, organizational, and mass communication.
Veil’s work has been funded by the United States Department of Agriculture, Environmental Protection Agency, and the Department of Homeland Security’s National Center for Food Protection and Defense and National Center for Risk and Economic Analysis of Terrorism Events.
A crisis panel of local experts, moderated by Lakeshore Public Media’s Steve Walsh, will follow Veil’s presentation.
