Jones Elementary School 2014 Book Fair

Jones-Parent-Involvement-Night-01Jones Elementary School hosted an event on Wednesday, April 9, where students and families were invited to a Buy One, Get One Scholastic Book Fair in the library. Afterward, everyone was invited to the cafeteria for a Story Hour, with a visit by three book characters: Fancy Nancy, Clifford the Big Red Dog, and the Cat in the Hat. Every child got to pick out a free book and enjoy cookies and lemonade.

Title 1 encourages families to feel comfortable in the neighborhood school by hosting these Family Nights twice a year. When parents participate in school activities, the children benefit and acquire a love for learning and reading. They also see how important their education is to their families. This creates a positive environment for both parents and students.

When children pick out their own book to read, they are self-motivated to read the book until they are fluent. This is an opportunity for each child to select his or her own complimentary book, as well as picking out books at a reasonable price.
